Houffalize

This year’s World Cup has been divided into six rounds for each discipline: Olympic Cross Country, Downhill and 4X. The number of rounds has been reduced from nine to six, as compared to 2009.

The opening of the 2010 World Cup XCO is going to take place in Britain, at a new trail in Dably Forest. The following four races are hosted on the European continent: starting in Houffalize during the first week of May; next is Offenburg also in May, while Champéry starts a little later in July, and finally the Val di Sole race in Italy on July 31st till August 1st. Afterward, the mountain bikers are going across the Atlantic to the US, particularly Windham, which hosts the final round of the cross country World Cup, taking place in August the 28th and 29th. This final event is reintroduced into the World Cup schedule for the first time after 2007 when it was closed due to a forest fire.

One week after Windham and the end of the World Cup, comes the crown jewel of the season, the World Championship which is held in Mont-Saint-Anne, Canada. It’s scheduled for August 31st untill September 5th. In addition, September will bring relief to many riders as there are no races left. Previous years riders who didn’t have any roll to play in the over all classement didn’t have the motivation to take on the last battles

The events of the Downhill category are planned to take place starting in Maribor, then Fort William, Schladming, Champery, Val Di Sole and finally Windham. As for the 4X, the battle begins in Houffalize (Belgium) which has become a tradition since last year. The UCI showed their appreciation for the organization of the nocturnal final with thousands of spectaters and the good lightning of the track. After Belgium, the 4X will head to Slovenia (Maribor), Great Britain (Fort William), Austria (Schladming), Italy (Van di Sole) and the U.S. (Windham).

All in all, it will be a World Cup enriched with many innovations, primarily taking place in Europe, and ending with a grand finale in Windham where all three disciplines are brought together.
