After the canceling of the earlier round of the Bundesliga Cup (Ger) which was taking place in St. Margen, now the race taking place in Wetter/Ruhr is also canceled. Sylvia and Dirk Wienen Treasures, the members of the organizing committee, announced: “We’re very sorry for this decision. But the financial risks were simply too large for us to handle”. Again it is the economic crisis to be blamed. The budget of the sponsors declined sharply in the MTB discipline.
The BDR (Bund Deutscher cyclists) will look for a replacement because of the Wetter’s canceling, normally, before the European Championships. Meaning, Schorsch Smitz has little chances to find a replacement in such short notice.

The Ruhrbike Festival, which is part of the Bundesliga Cup, and which is still taking place, will have its program considerably reduced. Only the marathon and school cup are still part of the program.
The 2011 German XC Championships, which also include Wetter / Ruhr, is left to be seen. Because of the canceling of St. Margen and Wetter / Ruhr, the Bundesliga Cup has only four races: Munsingen (17-18/4), Heubach (15-15/5), Albstadt (12-13/6) and Saalhausen (18 -19 / 9). BDR hopes that the international image of the popular German game won’t suffer in future.
