Filip Meirhaeghe, former world champion and Olympic silver medaillist mountain bike cross country, informed MTB-live.com about his future now his career as professional racer has comen to an end.
"I've been looking for a job that doesn't force me to say a final goodbye to the mountain bike sports and thanks to the Belgian Cycling Federation (KBWB) I've found it.", says Meirhaeghe. The next couple of years, Filip will be assisting the Be Gold riders.
This select group of young Belgian mountainbike riders will get all the support provided by the necessary organizations, so they can grow while giving Belgium better chances for medals during the Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro (Brazil) in 2016.

"The youngsters will have to proof that they can do better than me, I hope this will be a motivation for them. From my experience with doping (EPO), I hope to pass on the risks and negative consequences of those actions to avoid they might ever get tempted.", informs Meirhaeghe. When asking about Belgian's talent up until now, Filip is brief: "The only talent I see at the moment, is Elise Marchal."
His expertise and experience in the sport will not only be used by the KBWB since the organization Emolife Belgium has offered Meirhaeghe a part-time job as well. Emolife aims to develop the philanthropic market in a ethical correct and transparent fashion.
This means that they organize events which are durable, have a fundraising part and carry an international potention. Examples are the Oxfam Trailwalker, the Duchenne Heroes and the Senegal Classic. Those two last ones will be Filip's responsibility: "For the first Belgian Duchene Heroes, I'm hoping for at least 100 participants."
