Moritz Milatz

Moritz Milatz (Multivan-Merida) has wun the fifth race in the German cup competition, the MTB Bundesliga. By this victory, Milatz is close to the first position in the ranking of the MTB Bundesliga...

There is a difference of one point between Milatz and the current leader of the MTB Bundesliga, Swiss racer Fabian Giger (SKS-MIG) and with only two races left in this competition, both racers will make it two tough races...

During the race in Wetter, Milatz waited until the last lap to launch a final attack and co-escaper Fabian Giger crossed the finishline with a delay of over one minute.

"Fabian was strong and it wasn't easy to defeat him.", says Milatz, "Until the penultimate lap we were working together until I noticed he was having some trouble. The second half of the mountainbike season is going very smoothly for me."

Fabian Giger confirms: "I felt that Milatz was stronger and I'm pleased with my second position." Two weeks earlier, during the race in Albstadt Giger also finished in second position. In Wetter, the podium was completed by Giger's team-mate Thomas Litscher.

In the women's competition, all the attention was claimed by Danish racer Annika Langvad (HMTBK). Only having a licence since 2008 and finishing fourth in Albstadt, she now takes the win. During the race in Wetter she defeated former world champion and bronze medaillist in Beijing, Irina Kalentieva (Topeak-Ergon) despite a flat tire and a crash in the final lap.

For the moment Annika Langvad is racing for a small Danish team, but probably the 25-year-old talent will be accommodated in a professional team in 2010. The third position in the women's race was claimed by Alexandra Engen (Jönköpings ck).
