Vogel was in a leading group of four racers until Fabian Giger attacks during a long climb. Roel Paulissen and Wolfram Kurschat have to pass while Vogel is reaching for the rear wheel of Giger.
The following downhill section wasn't any concern for Vogel: "I felt good and knew I would be faster in the downhill than Fabian, so I remained calm." Fabian Giger was forced to acknowledge the power of Vogel, but he's very excited with his performance.
"I'm still young and so glad to be racing with these top riders. I'm so happy with this result.", says Fabian. Roel Paulissen was talking about an extreme hard climb which he mounted at his own pace...
"The crowd here is so cray! I remembered that from the 2007 race. It's like the Tour de France and you really have to restrain yourself not to go over the top because of all the cheering.", explains Belgian champion cross country.
For the winning Florian Vogel it was his first race in Albstadt and was wondering what Sabine Spitz in 2007 meant by: "I would like to put this crowd in a bus and take them to every race..." Now the Swiss racer understands and adds: "It's an insane crowd and I would do the same..."
Sabine Spitz (Central-Ghost) has taken her first win of the season in Albstadt. After a troublesome start for the German Olympic champion, she was able to close the gap with Elisabeth Osl (Central-Ghost). Not that much later, she hits off alone...
With one more lap to go, Spitz had a 30 seconds lead on her team-mate. She decided to take it easy in that final lap and already started celebrating the victory 100 metres before the finishline. Osl tried to reach Spitz with a extraordinary sprint but finished second with only one second time difference. Petra Henzi (Fischer-BMC) rounds up the podium with a third position.
